A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is urging social scientists to make more academic achievements and provide more consultations to the country's decision makers.
Li Tieying, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made these remarks at yesterday's celebration ceremony for the 25th birthday of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), the Party and government's top-level think tank in social sciences.
"CASS researchers should study major and practical issues facing the country in the new century and shape systematic theories in building socialism with Chinese characteristics," said Li, also the president of CASS, who addressed about 300 renowned scholars and high-level government officials.
CASS was set up the social science study branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1977, just one year after the Cultural Revolution (1966-76) and it was primarily aimed to provide theoretical and research backing for China's economic and political reform and development.
In the past 25 years, 7,045 books have been written by CASS researchers and 80,715 papers were issued.
In his keynote speech, Li encouraged CASS researchers to create more outstanding social science works in the new century.
Li also warned against being too eager for quick success.
