Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said Wednesday the juvenile protection law should be conscientiously enforced so that young people can grow up in a safe and harmonious environment.
The country's top legislator made the remark at a two-day meeting commemorating the tenth anniversary of promulgation of the country’s juvenile protection law. The meeting ended Wednesday in Beijing.
Education and development of the young generation is vital for the country's socialist development. Thanks to concern and efforts of the Communist Party of China and central government, juvenile protection has been guaranteed by a series of laws and regulations,Li said.
The law to protect kids will help them develop sound ethics and personalities, which are important to state stability and social development, Li stressed.
It is a must to improve the living environment and cultural market for the young people, he said, adding that more healthy educational and cultural spots such as museums, cinemas, science parks, and sports centers should be built for the youngsters. In addition, juveniles' right to receive education should be guaranteed. Education departments must further improve compulsory education, especially in rural areas, Li noted.
