Resettlement started Wednesday for the remaining 1,037 people living in the dam areas of the Three Gorges Project, who are to move to a farm in Qianjiang in Hubei Province, to make way for the construction of the gigantic hydroelectric power project.
So far, 70 percent of the total number, or 110,000 people, have been relocated from the project's areas under the jurisdiction of Hubei.
Since 1999, more than 70,000 farmers living in the project's areas under the jurisdiction of Chongqing Municipality have been moved to new villages built for them in 11 provinces and municipalities including Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui and Hunan. At the same time, some 14,300 people have been relocated elsewhere in Chongqing
