Visiting Kuwait's minister of state for foreign affairs Sheik Mohammed Al Sabah said Wednesday in Moscow that the United Nations should take control of the situation in Iraq.
"We think that the UN plays an important role and that it should take the situation in Iraq under its control already now," Al Sabah told a press conference after his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov.
Al Sabah discussed Iraq and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with Ivanov during his tour of nations that are permanent members of the UN Security Council.
He reiterated Kuwait's position that the situation in Iraq should be settled in compliance with UN resolutions, as well as that the UN should play a more active role in the region, including in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
He said that the anti-Iraq coalition troops will leave Kuwait after they fulfill their tasks.
