Kuwait to Supply Jordan With Oil for Three Months

Kuwait said Monday it will supply Jordan with oil for three months following the disruption of oil supply from Iraq due to the war, the Kuwait News Agency reported Monday.

Kuwait will supply Jordan with 25,000 barrels of oil a day in the next three months, Kuwaiti oil industry spokesman Sheik Talal Al Sabah was quoted as saying.

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are also supplying Jordan with oil, Al Sabah said without giving further details.

Iraq has been the sole oil exporter to Jordan in the past 13 years under special arrangement with the United Nations, which imposed sanctions on Iraq in 1990 following its invasion of neighboring Kuwait.

The strained relations between Kuwait and Jordan had been severely strained due to Amman's support to Iraq during the 1991 Gulf War. The bilateral Kuwait-Jordan trade resumed in 1998 following efforts to amend ties.

Iraq has strongly denounced Jordan for implicitly supporting the current US-led invasion of Iraq that started on March 20, for which Kuwait served as the launching pad.
