By the end of 2000, Beijing’s support to Lasa, in forms of constructing projects, materials and funds, valued 121 million yuan, which played an active role in promoting the economic and social developments of Lasa.
In the past 6 years, Beijing sent to Lasa two groups of 67 government officials who overcame a lot of difficulties and worked very hard there, contributing much to the economic constructions and social developments of Lasa. Meanwhile, Beijing accepted from Lasa many officials to be trained in the capital, fostering a number of officials who has been playing an important part in the construction of Lasa.
In recent years, Beijing has supported Lasa by constructing a lot of projects gratis such as investing 2.54 million yuan to remold Beijing Zhonglu in Lasa, investing 5 million yuan to build the Professional Training Center, investing 15 million yuan to reconstruct Longwangtan Park, investing 11.18 million yuan to build Beijing Primary School and investing 6.15 million yuan to complete the project of Baerku Road. It invested 37.5 million yuan last year to build the Broadcast and TV Center, which is going to be completed and put into use soon. There have been also supports and cooperation between counties and districts of the two cities in recent years.
