Environmental Protection: a Key Role in Development of China's Motorcycle

Environmental protection will play a key role in the development of China's motorcycles, panelists from more than thirty Chinese motorcycle manufacturers and academics said at a symposium on the trends in China's motorcycle industry yesterday in Beijing.
Since 1993, China has been the number one country in the world in terms of motorcycle production and marketing. For years, China's produced between 9 million and 10.5 million motorcycles, accounting for about 40% of the world's total production. But currently, China already has sixty large- and mid-sized cities which do not issue motorcycle licenses, greatly affecting the development of the motorcycle industry. The panelists at the symposium say that the motorcycle is a economical mode of transportation. It still has a lot of room to develop in China. They hope that an environmentally safe policy which will stimulate consumer interest will soon be passed.
