Telephone service has been available in all villages across south China's Guangdong Province, an official from the Guangdong Branch of China Telecom announced November 7.
In the past three months, the branch has invested some 350 million yuan (about US$42.27 million) in laying telephone lines in 816 villages, mostly located in the northern impoverished mountainous areas. The move has realized the goal of "telephone service available in every village" two months ahead of schedule, the official said.
According to the branch, over the past ten years, the telecommunications departments of the province have invested 600 million yuan (about US$72.46 million) in constructing the project.
