A building in Beijing is able to be heated by a revolutionary new system which can garner heat from underground or polluted water, or the sea.
The geothermic heat collection system, which was created by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Institute of Energy Resources in Guangzhou, can produce 75-degree centigrade water and reduce energy consumption by about 40 percent.
At a press conference organized by the CAS Wednesday afternoon, Chen Yong, a leading scientist with the institute, said the systemruns only on electric power and is environmentally friendly.
The project has obtained financial support from the Ministry ofScience and Technology. In the future, the system will be applied in common residential buildings in cities, Chen said.
Experts said that the new technology will provide an alternative for Beijing's upgrading of the urban heating network before 2008.
