Hard Life Tempered Girl's Willpower

Paralyzed Chinese gymnast Sang Lan has vowed to win gold medals again. This time, Sang hopes to win the Olympic champion at 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games, said Xinhua news agency.

“I will return to competition in 2008. A gold medal in Beijing Olympics is all I want,” Sang said on Saturday in Moscow, where she was part of the Beijing bid delegation.

Sang broke her neck in the warm-up for the women’s vault competition at the New York Goodwill Games in 1998. It was predicted that she would probably be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of her life.

Sitting in a wheelchair, Sang feels nothing from mid-chest down but passion about Olympics.

“If everything goes well, I might have the chance to practice table tennis. I want to take part in the table tennis competition in the Beijing Paralympics, and I have seven years to go,” she said.

“I will never give up. I just want a gold medal for my struggling to live on.”
