Typhoon Death Toll Reaches 23 in Guangdong

Guangdong Province in south China has reported a death toll of 23 and a property loss of 2.37 billion yuan (US$286 million) caused by typhoon Utor, according to the latest statistics from the provincial government.

Having prepared emergency measures before the typhoon came, provincial officials are working to reduce the losses. Five teams have been sent to the cities of Shantou, Jieyang, Huizhou, Meizhou and Shanwei respectively, to organize rescue efforts.

Electricity supply has been restored in Shantou which is hardest hit and roads have been cleared. The leaking dyke has been repaired completely.

Officials of the provincial government said that the relief work there still faces great challenges.
