China to Import Magnetic Suspension Train Equipment

The first group of magnetic suspension train (MST) equipment needed for Shanghai's MST rail project will be shipped from Hamburg, Germany, on June 18.

Sources from the China Shipping Container Co. Ltd., the only designated carrier of the shipment, said the cargo will arrive at Shanghai Port around July 10.

According to the sources, it will take two years to finish transporting all the equipment needed for the MST program.

The magnetic suspension rail in Shanghai, the first of its kind in this oriental metropolis, will have a length of 30 km. It will travel from Longyang Station on Shanghai's second subway line in the west of the city to the city's Pudong International Airport in the east.

The entire magnetic suspension rail project will cost 8.9 billion yuan (about US$1.07 billion).
