The 2001 Shanghai Spring International Music Festival, a major showcase for the city's new artistic talents that also may feature pop superstar Michael Bolton, will be staged from May 4 to 13.
Sponsored by the Shanghai Federation of Literary and Arts Circles and the Shanghai Bureau of Culture and Broadcasting, the festival is a springboard for new players in the world of Shanghai music and dance.
The festival features six main events, including "Show of New Talents in Music and Dance," "East Billboard," "Broadcast Music Program Award," "National DJ Contest," "Chorus Contest" and "Performances of Dances from Different Regions."
Seminars will be held to discuss the development of 21st century music and new styles of Chinese traditional folk music.
Bands from Australia, Poland, the United States, Germany and Russia will perform. And some world famous musicians also will attend. Tan Dun, a prominent composer based in New York is invited to lecture and singer Michael Bolton is considering a concert at the Shanghai Sports Center.
