Beijing's Property the Most Expensive

Beijing has the highest overall property prices in China, according to the results of research done recently by the National Statistics Bureau.

Its overall property price per square meter is 4,128 yuan (US$495), more than twice above the national average.

The average price per square metre in most parts of the country are between 1,000 yuan (US$120) and 1,800 yuan (US$216), the bureau said.

Only Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin municipalities, and Guangdong, Fujian and Liaoning provinces are above the average.

Beijing also has the highest price per square meter in residential units, 3,995 yuan (US$480), followed by Shanghai with 3,130 yuan (US$375). Tianjin, Guangdong, Liaoning and Fujian range between 1,936 yuan (US$230) and 2,745 yuan (US$330) per square metre.

Yet Beijing residents spend the least on their home decorations: 26 percent spend less than 30,000 yuan (US$3,600), according to research by the China Social Affairs Research Agency.

Guangzhou residents, by comparison, spend the most on decorations: Only 15 percent spend less than 30,000 yuan, the agency said. Also, according to a NSB survey, nearly 65 percent of the interviewees said they consider the price of the residential units in their cities too high, 29.4 per cent rated it as moderate, and only 5.6 percent of them said it was too low.
