Tibetan Gardeners Learn Vegetable Cultivation from Foreign Expert

Market gardeners in Tibet Autonomous Region, southwest China, are coming under the scrutiny of an Israeli vegetable growing expert.

Harosh Daniel is making a 10-day study of techniques in suburban Lhasa, the regional capital, Shannan and Xigaze prefectures, and helping to resolve difficulties in cultivation and vegetable production in greenhouses.

Daniel will also exchange views with local experts on key technologies regarding market garden research in Tibet, environmental improvements and cultivation facilities in Tibet, strengthening cultivation management, and improvement of productive efficiency.

He will also offer special guidance on solving difficulties relating to the structure and functions of greenhouses and plastic shelters, vegetable cultivation and management techniques, and the breeding selection of improved varieties.

Tibet now has 90 hectares of test fields for vegetable cultivation, including 42 ha of greenhouses and plastic shelters, according to Li Xiaozhong, deputy director of the vegetable research institute of the Tibet Autonomous Regional Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

Daniel arrived at Lhasa on April 24.
