Chinese, Foreign Scholars Discuss Liver Cirrhosis

A two-day international workshopon the diagnosis and treatment of cirrhosis of the liver and its complications began in Shanghai Wednesday.

Chinese and foreign experts attending shared the latest developments in hepato-cirrhosis treatment and discussed the genetic treatment of liver cirrhosis, early detection of liver cancer, and liver and liver cell transplantation.

Cirrhosis of liver is the sixth highest cause of death in China.Conservative estimates say that more than one million Chinese suffer from it.

About 350 million people worldwide are affected by the hepatitis B virus with almost one third of these being in China.
