Three million Chinese students organized a range of activities Monday meant to clean up antisocial behavior on the Internet, such as defaming others under false names, and the use of pornography.
The students were from 100 colleges of higher learning and 2, 000 primary and middle schools across the country.
The activities, with the theme "abiding by civilized net pact and striving to be civilized net pioneers" included debates, online discussions and seminars, and were organized to publicize the "China National Civilized Net Pact for Youngsters".
For instance, young pioneers, teachers and some parents of students with the primary school attached to the prestigious Beijing University surfed the net together with Dong Hao, an anchorman with the China Central Television Station who is the special promoter of the pact.
The students exchanged net surfing experiences and expressed determination to behave when surfing the net and to become civilized emissaries of the Internet.
