Shanghai-style Paintings on Sale

Duoyunxuan, one of the leading art dealers in town, is hosting a fair for Shanghai-style paintings by well-known artists such as Qi Baishi, Ren Bonian, Huang Binhong and Xu Beihong.

All works for sale are genuine pieces, manager of Duoyunxuan said. And the theme for these works is "Shanghai Style".

Artists in the first half of the last century prospered in Shanghai. From all over the country they came to live and work in the city and set up a style that combined tradition with modern experience; Western style with Oriental mentality. The style of Shanghai emphasized change and dynamism.

The fair has 300 to 400 pieces. One painting by Qi Baishi is priced at 120,000 yuan (US$14,457). It features two Mandarin ducks under lotus flowers and leaves.
