Two American singers who perform in Broadway musicals will sing selected songs from "West Side Story," "Phantom of Opera" and "Les Miserables" and others at the Shanghai Grand Theatre this weekend.
The Shanghai Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Hu Yongyan, will provide the music for tenor Douglas La Brecque and soprano Jan Horvath.
Jan Horvath, a member of the original Broadway company of "The Phantom of the Opera" where she performed the roles of Christine and Carlotta, has performed a variety of roles including Eva Peron in "Evita" with the West Virginia Public Theatre and Aldonza in "Man of La Mancha" for Opera Grand Rapids.
A graduate of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Horvath is the soprano soloist with "Bravo Broadway" and has appeared as a guest soloist with over 70 symphony orchestras including the Israel Philharmonic, National Symphony and Philadelphia Orchestra.
Doug La Brecque thrilled theatre goers as the Phantom in the Hal Prince production of "Phantom of the Opera." He has also performed the role of Raoul, Christine's lover in the Toronto production of the musical.
La Brecque has performed the leading roles in "Candide," "Follies," "A Chorus Line" and "Man of La Mancha."
At the concerts, the two singers will sing various titles including "Get Happy," "Over the Rainbow," "Trolley Song," "My Heart Will Go On" and "I Could Have Danced All Night."
