China to Promote IT Application in Cities

China will rev up the construction of urban information infrastructure to improve office automation, promote policy-making in a more scientific way and upgrade management by modern means in the coming five years.

The construction will be mainly carried out in three fields, namely the urban digitization project covering city designing, construction, management and service, a national information network for engineering construction and the construction industry, and a national housing and real estate information network, said Deputy Construction Minister Zheng Yijun.

To achieve the goals, a network will be built for government construction departments at all levels to exchange and issue information, Zheng said at a national meeting on IT application in the construction industry, being held in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province, south China.

A data integration and disposal center and an information release center of the construction industry should also be established, along with a government-led computer network to promote the administration, development and management of the real estate sector as well as the industrialization of the housing sector, he said.
