Fan Xiaojian, vice minister of Agriculture announced that China has registered a total of 1,057 enterprises producing green food and more than 2,000 varieties of green products have been developed with a total output exceeding 10 million tons.
So far, green products developed by China include grain, cooking oil, fruit, vegetable, poultry, waterfowl, dairy products, wine and beverage with primary farm produce accounting for 30 percent and processed products taking up 70 percent. In the year 2000, green food achieved an output value totaling 40 billion yuan including US$ 200 million worth of exports. Green food production has covered most Chinese provinces and cities, 50 million mu of farmland, grassland and water surface has been placed under protection for developing green food production.
Through a decade's development, green food has become a food known in China and widely accepted by Chinese farmers, enterprises and consumers.
