Special Duties Imposed on Three Japanese Products

Relevant Chinese government departments have decided to impose special duties on imported automobiles, mobile phones and phones in vehicles, and air conditioners made in Japan.

Gao Yan, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) said in Beijing Monday that the series of unjust trade limitation measures and discriminatory actions of Japan on some Chinese export goods, disregarding the strong opposition and representations of the Chinese side, have seriously harmed the interests of various Chinese industries, enterprises, and producers, and gravely affected the normal development of bilateral trade.

After several rounds of negotiations between the two sides, the Japanese side refused to accept the proposal made by the Chinese side to solve the problem and insisted on its wrong decision, said Gao.

The decision of Chinese departments to impose the special duties on the above three Japanese goods was made in accordance with relevant laws of China, Gao said.

She said that the Chinese side demands the Japanese side immediately correct its wrong decision and discriminatory actions against China's export goods, so as to solve the relevant problems as soon as possible.
