Bonus Slated for Tips on Zhengzhou Robbery

Zhao Nan

Chinese police are offering 500,000 yuan (US$60,240) as reward to anyone providing clues that directly leads to snatching of four robbers three days ago in Zhengzhou, provincial capital of Central China's Henan.

Zhang Zhanjun, deputy director of the Zhengzhou Public Security Bureau, asked the public on Sunday to co-operate in ferreting out the culprits and guaranteed the safety of the revealers.

Four armed robbers stormed into a branch of the Guangdong Development Bank in Zhengzhou on Dec 9, snatching 1.8 million yuan (US$210,000), killing a security guard while injuring a dozen others.

After tense investigation, the police posted the characteristics of the four robbers in the Henan Morning post, encouraging the public to report those who hide guns and explosives illegally, suspects visiting the bank regularly shortly before the robbery, or suspects fleeing on identified vehicles or hiding in known places.

The case followed another major robbery on November 11, 2000, when five hooligans robbed a bank outlet in Nanchang, East China's Jiangxi, gunning down 3 and seizing 500,000 yuan. All the five have been netted in.
