Bribers Put on Trial in Hu Changqing Case

The People's Court of Xihu District, Nanchang City has begun to hear cases in which Yan Guangbao, president and general manager of Jinwei Group of Jiangxi Province, is charged of bribing Hu Changqing, former deputy provincial governor.

From Nov 13 on, five cases involving Hu's bribe-taking will be heard respectively in Donghu, Xihu and Qingyunpu people's courts, Nanchang.

Li Weidong, president and general manager of Jinyangguang Group, bribed Hu seven times for irregular benefits since the latter half of 1996 with a total of 170,000 yuan and US$20,000. Nanchang Haiwei Industrial Co.Ltd. president Zhou Huaxin and general manager Xiong Haigen bribed Hu with a sum of 175,000 yuan and valuables worth up to 34,400 yuan during October 1997 and August 1999. Donghu District People's Procuratorate has also had action taken on these charges against them at the People's Court of the same region.

Former president and general manager Li Mengping of Mengwei Group, Jiangxi Province, had bribed Hu eight times with a total of 190,000 yuan and US$15,000, and a lawsuit has been filed against him at the People's Court of Qingyunpu District.

Yan Guangbao, president and general manager of Jinwei Group and General Metal Materials Co, Ltd. had for irregular income bribed Hu two times with a total of 150,000 and 45,000 yuan during May, June 1997 and June 1998.

Of the eight cases concerning bribing Hu, one has been completed and the other seven are being heard or will be heard in Nanchang, Shangrao and Jingdezhen.
