China Red Cross Appeals for International Help

The China Red Cross Society is appealing for help from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, to give aid to the areas affected by recent disastrous floods.

The society has received inquiries about the flooding from red cross organizations in the United States, Canada, Norway, Spain, Turkey and Germany. The American National Red Cross has donated US$100,000.

The China Red Cross and its branches have been working hard to give assistance to flood victims. The China Red Cross has offered 150,000 yuan (US$18,000) and 50 tents in relief.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Red Cross has donated 200,000 yuan (US$24,000) to victims in Shaanxi and Sichan provinces, together with clothing worth 200,000 HK dollars and 50 sleeping bags given to Sichuan.

Since June, serial floods have played havoc mainly in five areas, Shaanxi Province, Sichuan Province, Chongqing Municipality, Hubei Province and Guizhou Province.
