Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao Thursday called for more efforts for accelerating the economic development in the areas inhabited by ethnic groups and to constantly improve the life of all ethnic people in China.
Hu also stressed efforts to foster high-quality cardres for ethnic groups and to consolidate the unity among all ethnic peoples in the country.
Hu made the remarks at a forum marking the 20th anniversary of the founding of a training program for Tibetan cardres in the Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Hu, also president of the school, noted that China is a unified country containing various ethnic groups and proper handling of these ethnic groups is vital for the country's unity, economic development, political stability and social progress.
The CPC, by applying Marxist basic principles in China's reality, has created and developed theories and policies for ethnic groups that cater to China's actual conditions, and has achieved progress in practices that are appropriate for the handling of issues related to ethnic groups, he noted.
With the development of China's economy, great achievements have been made by people of all ethnic groups with common prosperity, Hu said, adding that the relationship of equality, unity and mutual aid among all ethnic groups has been further enhanced.
He said that the issues of ethnic groups are complicated in nature and China should face the existing problems in a straight manner and fight against separatists.
Fostering high-quality cardres from ethnic groups is a matter of great importance for the Party as it is the key to solving problems in ethnic regions, Hu stressed.
He urged governments at all levels to show strong support to the training work of ethnic cardres.
The training program for Tibetan cardres was launched in 1980, and since then, 968 Tibetan students have received training.
