Three TV stations and one radio station in east China's Jiangsu Province, a leading economic powerhouse neighboring Shanghai, announced a merger Wednesday.
The four will reorganize and combine into a general TV and radio station with an attempt to reduce redundant personnel, speed development and improve competitiveness.
Zhang Jianhua, head of the new station, said that the station, whose operation will start Thursday, will have additional business and fashion channels to meet the demands of the audience.
Meanwhile, three TV stations in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region amalgamated Wednesday. The new station will provide programs in three languages, namely Uygur, Kazakh and Mandarin.
Experts said that combination in the media circles is part of the preparation work for meeting the challenges brought about by China's imminent entry into the World Trade Organization.
