Yunnan Sentenced in Public Large Number of Drug Criminals

The People's High Court of the Yunnan Province announced to the media that courts at various levels in the province have recently tried and convicted a great number of cases concerning drug criminals of various kinds.

Large numbers of drug traffickers and dealers were arrested, among which 517 were sentenced to an imprisonment of five years or longer and some others to death for more serious crimes.

Zhen Shurao, vice president of the Court said that this is the 23rd large-scale campaign against drug trafficking across the province since 1990.

A drug dealer named Lei Yongxiu was caught last July when policemen found 1,112 grams of heroin hidden in a carefully processed tire that Lei had.

The traffickers Li Shuanghua and Zhou Wenwei secretly transported "methamphetamine" from Myanmar into China last February. They were captured by police when a pedler, Yao Cuihua, was hawking " methamphetamine " in the city of Dali.

The police and legal authorities have been keeping a vigilant eye on drug distribution, which was once rampant in the area, and vowed to crack down on the dirty drug trade.
