Yunnan province will soon become the first one in China to allow overseas visitors to stay in the hotel of their choice.
The province will be lifting the accommodation restriction imposed on overseas visitors during the second half of this year, according to the Yunnan Provincial Public Security Bureau (YPPSB).
Currently, overseas visitors are required to stay only in the hotels that were government designated for foreigners.During this year's first quarter, a notice calling for the lift of the accommodation restriction was issued by the Border Entry-Exit Management Department of the YPPSB. In the second quarter, the province lifted the restriction in seven trial cities including Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, Yuxi, Qujing, Chuxiong and Xishuangbanna. Based on these trial results, the YPPSB decided to rescind the accommodation restrictions on overseas visitors throughout the entire province, starting in the second half of this year.
