Siemens said Tuesday that it had won contracts worth US$250 million (278 million euros) to expand the mobile phone networks of China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC) and China United Telecommunications Corporation (China Unicom).
Siemens would expand CMCC's GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) networks in the province of Anhui and the Shanghai region and upgrade them for GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) technology, the German group said in a statement.
For China Unicom, Siemens would expand its GSM network in the province of Heilongjiang and also set up pre-paid services for the company, the statement said.
