Mitsubishi Urged to Respect Chinese Consumers' Rights

The China Consumers Association Monday made several suggestions in response to Japanese Mitsubishi's serious safety problems, which has caused damage to Chinese consumers' rights and interests.

Serious hidden perils, which were detected by consumers in cross-country vehicles produced by Mitsubishi, were confirmed by related authorities, an official with the association said.

As a result, Japanese Mitsubishi should make a public apology and replace the product. It should also pay compensation for deaths caused by the hidden problems according to relevant laws.

According to the Law on Protecting Consumers' Rights and Interests, consumers can make their own decisions as to whether to ask for money or to replace the unqualified parts.

Consumers have had difficulty in safeguarding their rights in many similar incidents involving Mitsubishi in the past.

The China Consumer Association urged Mitsubishi to respect Chinese consumers and abide by Chinese laws. Otherwise, consumers will lose confidence in the company.
