The Shanghai University Web Library, jointly sponsored by leading Shanghai Communication University and Fudan University, began operation Monday in the city.
A user can find needed information about Shanghai's university libraries, their collections and other resources anywhere and any time through the Internet.
"The opening of the university web library improves the means of information processing and transmission in universities in Shanghai," said Professor Cao Rongwei, deputy director of the web library.
Cao said they are going to turn the web library a nationwide or even international one.
