Chinese President Jiang Zemin went to the shooting range of the armored forces at the foot of the Yanshan Mountain in Beijing's western suburb to observe a large-scale military training achievements show Friday morning.
The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) held this morning the largest ever show of military training achievements since its 1964 large-scale contest of military skills.
According to authoritative sources, the show is also the PLA's highest level activities of exchanging high-tech military training achievements in the past 36 years.
The show will last through tomorrow.
Jiang Zemin, who is also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and chairman of the Central Military Commission, had called on the PLA nine years ago to make full preparations for winning the possible future war.
Now the PLA has become more streamlined, more efficient, and has more advanced conventional weapons and has made major breakthroughs in the development of sophisticated weapons for national defense.
The show will display, in various parts of the country simultaneously, the great progress made by the people's armed forces under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee and the Central Military Commission.
