Indian FM: China Has No Plan to Mediate Between India, Pakistan

China has no intention of playing a mediatory role between India and Pakistan on the Kashmir issue, Indian External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh said Sunday.

"China has neither any intention nor will to play any mediatory role between the two countries," Singh told a press conference when asked whether visiting Chinese Prime Minister Zhu Rongji was bringing any proposals for mediation in the current Indo-Pak stand-off.

He said it was well-known that China had a special relationshipwith Pakistan but India remained committed to improving relations with China, according to the Press Trust of India (PTI).

"I am sure there will be movement forward during talks with Premier Zhu," Singh was quoted by the PTI as saying.

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji is beginning a six-day official visit to India on Sunday and will meet Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and other Indian officials on Monday.
