Wearing a brand-name overcoat, a pair of "Lee" jeans, and with avant-garde makeup, Yuzhoin, a Tibetan girl from the landlocked Yadong County in the southern part of Xigaze Prefecture looks no different to the fashion conscious girls who live in the coastal metropolis.
In an interview with Xinhua News Agency, Yuzhoin said that although Yadong County was remote, small and surrounded by mountains, girls there never give up their effort to follow fashion. Her present trip to Lhasa was for shopping only.
"Our fashion consciousness is the result of the recent years' local economic jump which resulted from central government's ongoing west region development policy and preferential policy for ethnic groups," she continued.
In fact, her parents' generation was too poor to get enough clothes to keep warm, let alone choosing color and style of clothes.
In addition, the most of the younger Tibetans have received modern education which helps form their own interpretation of beauty and fashion, she said.
