Wei Jianxing Called on Trade Unions to Protect Workers' Rights
Wei Jianxing, president of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions November 28 praised Trade unions in China's financial sector for its great contributions to the development of the sector and the country's modernization drive, he also called on the Union to protect workers' rights.

Wei, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Central Committee, made the remark in a meeting with participants attending a ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the Monetary Workers' Trade Union of China.

Vice-Premier Wen Jiabao, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, attended the meeting.

Over 700 trade union officials and representatives attended the gathering to mark the founding of the Monetary Workers' Trade Union.

Wei praised the trade union for its efforts to protect employees' rights over the past five decades. He called on the trade union to steadfastly follow the Communist Party of China (CPC)'s basic policy to devote heart and soul to the working class.

Trade unions in the financial sector should uphold the great banner of Deng Xiaoping Theory, follow President Jiang Zemin's "Three Represent's," and implement the Law on Trade Unions, said Wei, who is also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
