Taiwan to Donate Bone Marrow to Mainland

The medical center of Taiwan's largest charity organization will again donate bone marrow to patients in the mainland, according to reports from Taipei Tuesday.

This will be the 86th time the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation has donated bone marrow to patients in the mainland, the foundation said.

The bone marrow, to be flown from Hualien in eastern Taiwan Wednesday, is expected to arrive at Suzhou Hospital in the Jiangsu Province at midnight after a 20-hour trip.

The foundation, which set up a bone marrow data center seven years ago, began to make donations to the mainland as from 1997.

The foundation has donated bone marrow to recipients in eight Chinese cities -- Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Guangzhou Tianjin, Wuhan, and Hainan.
