World Bank Official Visiting CIIC

“It is right time indeed to visit China before Spring Festival (which falls on January 24) because everybody here now is happy and in good spirit,” says Dr. Akbar Khawaja, head of the World Bank Country Gateway Operations. Dr. Khawaja is visiting China Internet Information Center with an encouraging project in his pocket. He is here to have talks with Chinese government officials and dotcomers about an initiative to build up the “China Development Gateway” within the “Global Development Gateway” of the World Bank.
Yang Zhengquan, vice minister of the State Council Information Office, met Dr. Khawaja and his entourage this morning. Yang said that the Chinese government values this opportunity to cooperate with the World Bank and this project will surely benefit international communications via the Internet and help alleviate poverty in China.
