Weather Conditions in Beijing Expected to Be Better in 2008

Beijing's weather conditions in the summer of 2008 would be getting better due to an environmental protection drive standing high on the priorities list for the city's Olympic bid for hosting the 2008 Games, a top bid official said Thursday.

Environmental protection and meteorology featured one of the presentations to the visiting International Olympic Committee (IOC)inspectors here on Thursday. And, according to Jiang Xiaoyu, vice-president of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Bidding Committee (BOBICO), the bid campaigners had not only reported the current climate but also estimated the possible weather conditions in July and August of 2008, the proposed period for the Olympic Games. "With a lot efforts having been made to improve the environment, the weather conditions in the future is expected to be better," Jiang said.

The IOC evaluating team began the second day of their four-day inspection tour on a freezing and foggy Thursday, which obviously ran against Beijing bidders' wishes. "We of course had wished it be a bright day in Beijing," Jiang added.
