The criminal case involving 23 explosions in the cities of Zhanjiang and Jiangmen in south China's Guangdong Province on Friday morning has been cleared up, according to a police press conference held Saturday in Zhanjiang.
Lin Guojian, the suspect, who plotted the explosions out of family and economic conflicts, has been confirmed to be killed in a suicide explosion, police said, adding the explosions have totally killed five people and injured seven others.
Lin was greatly irritated by Wang Qixin, his former brother-in-law who had divorced his sister, and wanted to take revenge on Wang.
Lin managed to get the residence keys of Wang, and even those of Wang's parents and sister, and secretly placed explosives in their residences.
In addition, Lin also placed explosives to attack other households having debt conflicts or other economic problems with him.
Lin had made systematic preparations before taking action, police said, adding Lin had bought books to learn how to create explosions.
