Overseas Artists Arrive in Nanjing for Sixth Art Festival

Dancers from Taiwan and an orchestra from Austria have arrived in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, for the Sixth China Art Festival which opened Thursday evening.

So far all the eight overseas troupes have arrived for the top

level art gala.

The Peggy Wu Jazz Dance Company from Taiwan will perform a

traditional Chinese opera "The story of White Snake," which is

widely known throughout China for its tragic flavor. Against the

background of modern jazz, the opera is set to take on a new look.

Players of Johann Strauss Capelle of Austria are to surprise

the Chinese audience with their handed-down musical instruments

and 19th century costumes. They will entertain people with Vienna centenary classical pieces.

The other troupes include Stuggart Ballet of Germany, American

Ballet West Company History, Yishikawa Yotai Drum Band of Japan,

Chinese Music Research Association of Japan, the Peggy Wu Jazz

Dance Company, Hong Kong Bahe Guild Guangdong Opera Troupe, a

dancing team from the Republic of Congo and a dancing team from

Guinea.

The unique Stuggart Ballet is expected to stage an excellent

show, while the Ballet West Company History, one of the best five ballet troupes in the United States, will blend the classical style and the modern flavor in performances.

The Japanese drum band will bring a chorus of strong local

taste to the festival, which is scheduled to end on October 13.
