Ancient Wine Workshops Found in Anhui

Archaeologists have discovered about 20 ancient wine, cloth-making, tea, edible oil and bean curd workshops in east China's Anhui Province.

The workshops are located in the village of Gaoluting, Shitai County.

In the beginning of the 20th century, wine made in the village was popular in Shanghai, Yangzhou and other major cities in China and were even exported to southeast Asian countries.

Centuries ago, most of the shops in the village had a workshop in their backyards.

The well-preserved workshops, which used primitive production technology, are important for researchers to study the customs of southern Anhui.
