U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan Monday sent a message to the Chinese government, expressing condolences over the loss of life following a coalmine explosion in Guizhou province, a U.N. spokesman said Tuesday.
Extending his sorrow and sympathy, the U.N. chief hoped that "the rescue efforts, vigorously pursued by the Chinese government, will help in saving more lives".
A gas exploration occurred in the Shuicheng coalmine on September 28 when more than 240 people worked underground.
Over 80 miners were rescued later and search for life has been going on, according to the latest information.
