A seven-day summer camp for teenagers from both sides of the Taiwan Straits opened near Chongqing, a western China metropolis on Tuesday.
The camp, aimed at promoting exchanges among teenagers from Taiwan and the Chinese mainland, is hosting nearly 90 teenagers, over 50 of them from Taiwan.
A second-year college student from Taiwan University said the modernization in Chongqing was beyond his imagination, and he is eager to know more about the Chinese mainland during the camp.
As part of the camp activities, scholars will be invited to give lectures on the history, culture and customs of the Three Gorges area for the Taiwanese young people's better understanding of the development of civilization along the Yangtze River.
The campers will visit the Three Gorges, and later go to Wuhan, in central China's Hubei Province.
