A company in this port city has vowed to produce half of the port lifts sold on the international market during the coming several years.
The Shanghai Zhenhua Lift Co., one of the leading port lift producers in the world, has earmarked one billion yuan (about US$110 million) to establish what it calls the world's biggest port lift producing center on Changxing Island near Shanghai.
The company said the center will cover one square kilometer spanning 3.5 km in length and create over 6,000 skilled jobs.
Late last month, seven port lifts produced by the company were shipped from the company's plant on the island to Brazil. The lifts cost US$16 million.
