China will invest 4.8 billion yuan to build water conservancy projects in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region over the next five years.
Of the total sum, four billion yuan will be provided by the central government and the rest will be raised by the local government, said Chen Lei, vice-minister of water resources.
The funds will be used to build key water control projects, utilizing water resources, upgrading irrigation systems and undertaking water conservation projects in Tibet. Construction for all the projects scheduled for this year have started.
