Jiaxing

Jiaxing is a place where southern China's culture originated. As early as 6,000 to 7,000 years ago, people here fostered the Majiabang civilization, which is recognized as representative of early Neolithic civilization in the lower reaches of the Yangtze Delta.

Jiaxing is known as the "home of silk" and is a producer of textiles as well. It is one of the world's largest exporters of leather goods as well. Mechanical, chemical and electronic companies also call Jiaxing home.

All the counties and county-level cities under Jiaxing's jurisdiction are listed among the top 100 wealthiest counties in China.

Jiaxing is an important energy base in east China. The Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant, the first Chinese-designed nuclear power station in China, is located in Haiyan County.
