On March 5, more than 170 consumers filed a group complaint over overheated video cards and blackout screens of HP laptops to China's product quality authorities. On March 15, 2010, the Day of World Consumer Rights, China's Central Television's muckraking report exposed the quality problems of a number of types of HP laptops. In the 12-minute video coverage, a HP employee denied any quality problems with their laptops, and another emloyee said the laptops went down because of "the horrible cockroaches in students' dorms". Later HP issued an apology and offered an extension of warranty periods for some laptop models, but HP did not respond to consumers' request for a recall of the faulty laptops.
