The Philippine government supports a "peaceful transition" in Libya and assured it will help Libyans pursue peace and stability.
"The Philippines welcomes the imminent resolution of the conflict in Libya. The Philippines supports a peaceful transition in Libya in order for normalcy to return to this country, and looks forward to working with the Libyan people in pursuing peace and stability," Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said Wednesday.
Lacierda extends the Philippine government's gratitude to the Libyan people "for keeping Filipinos and their families in Libya safe."
He also thanked the people of Libya for the hospitality they have extended to Filipinos working in Libya. These include Filipino medical workers who provide emergency humanitarian assistance to all parties in the conflict."
Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. said that Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) trained for troubled countries with significant Filipino worker populations "have been activated and are closely monitoring developments in Libya and Syria."
He said the teams were trained in May and are ready to be deployed to strife-torn countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
The RRTs are composed of select staff from the military and the departments of foreign affairs, labor and defense.
