South Korea's chief negotiator to the six-party nuclear talks will pay a two-day visit to China starting Thursday to meet with his counterpart over nuclear issues of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the foreign ministry in Seoul said Tuesday.

Wi Sung-lac will meet Thursday with Wu Dawei, China's top envoy to the talks over ending the DPRK's nuclear program, according to the ministry.

The visit comes prior to the forthcoming meeting of a U.N. Security Council committee tasked with overseeing sanctions on the DPRK. South Korea has been seeking to bring the issue of the DPRK's recently claimed uranium enrichment program to the U.N. Security Council, claiming it runs counter to the country's international obligations.
